The Secret to a Perfect Fit—Here’s How We Nail It

When it comes to menswear, fit is king. It’s what takes a good outfit to a great one—ensuring comfort, longevity, and a sharp, put-together look. At Articles of Style, we don’t believe in guesswork. Instead, we use a custom try-on garment to fine-tune every detail before crafting the final garment.

For Alec Soghomonia, we went through our signature fitting process, adjusting everything from collar width to jacket length to achieve the perfect balance.

Here’s how we did it:

The Shirt: Nailing the Foundation

A well-fitting shirt collar is essential—it should hug the neck evenly without gaping or feeling restrictive. A collar that’s too loose looks sloppy, while one that’s too tight is just uncomfortable. Alec’s collar was adjusted to sit cleanly around his neck, ensuring a polished look with or without a tie.

Next, we refined the sleeve length. A properly tailored shirt should show about half an inch of cuff under the jacket sleeve. More importantly, there should be enough extra fabric in the sleeve so that when Alec extends his arms, the cuff stays in place rather than riding up awkwardly.

The Jacket: Precision in Every Detail

A jacket can make or break the entire look, so we start at the collar. It has to sit flush against the neck—no gaps, no pulling. From there, we refined:

Shoulders – The seam should hit exactly at the shoulder bone so the fabric drapes smoothly.
Chest & Armholes – A high armhole means better movement, a cleaner fit, and no pulling across the chest.
Button Placement – Lowering the button slightly makes the lapels look longer, which visually elongates the body. Instant height boost.
✔ Jacket Length – Forget the “hand test.” We go by crotch level to make sure the jacket is perfectly balanced and modern.

Fit That’s Built to Last

After dialing everything in, we created Alec’s final suit—perfectly tailored, down to the quarter inch. Every detail was adjusted to his exact specs, meaning his suit isn’t just custom—it’s his.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ “The suit is an incredible compliment magnet and I couldn’t believe how easy it was to get such a perfect fit without ever stepping outside my house!” this 5 star review on TrustPilot shared.

At Articles of Style, we don’t just sell suits. We build your perfect fit.
