Articles of Style Reviews: Jay Patel on Learning the Rules—Then Making Them His Own

When Jay Patel started law school in 2010, the professional world felt like uncharted territory. Dressing for it? Even more so.

“The internet was different back then,” he laughs. “There weren’t a lot of guides on how to build a professional wardrobe as a young man.”

That’s when he stumbled across Dan’s original website—The Style Blogger—and started learning the fundamentals: how to dress, how to move through different spaces with confidence, and eventually, how to break the rules without losing the plot.

Over time, those early lessons evolved—just like Jay’s wardrobe. The foundation remained the same: understand the classics first, and then, once you’re fluent, you can start to add your own personality.

Today, Jay’s style is a reflection of that journey. Polished but personal. Thoughtful without feeling forced. Built not just on fit and fabric, but on the confidence that comes from knowing exactly what you're doing—and enjoying every step of it.

Because true style isn’t just about the clothes you wear—it’s about owning the story you're telling.
