The Timeless Gentleman Capsule featuring Alex Kosene

Alex Kosene has been a long-time customer, a dear friend and a great collaborator (he and his wife Inés are the creators behind our new video series). 

Alex has a great wardrobe - but he was missing a lot of the classics. A great 4-season navy blue suit. A versatile overcoat. A grey flannel trouser. A neutral glenplaid jacket... These are some of the "menswear classics" that were missing from his wardrobe. 

So we created the "Timeless Gentleman Capsule" for Alex. It has 13 items - all staples of classic menswear - that can be mixed-and-matched (in any combination) to create at least 50+ different outfits. 

First, let's start with the 13 items.

A Classic Striped Tie in shades of blue and grey - especially in a matte fabric - is one of the best ties you can have in your rotation.

You only need a few pocket squares; one should be solid white linen and another should be a paaisley print in an earthy color palette. I prefer a dry matte fabrics like linen, cotton or wool (over silk).

Using only these 13 items, Alex can make more than 50 stylish outfits.

All the items in his capsule work together (in any combination) so he can't make any "mistakes". He can easily (and quickly) create stylish outfits for any occasion - from business to casual.

This allows him to get the most out of each item in his wardrobe and keep a cohesive, streamlined closet.

A solid navy 4-season wool suit is probably the number 1 suit to have in your wardrobe. It looks good on everybody and is always apprioriate.

A 3/4 length mac coat (that hits around mid thigh) in a beautiful fabric is the ultimate coat. It's elegant enough to throw over a suit, but casual enough to wear with just a t-shirt an jeans.

You want that navy suit fabric to be resilient because you will wear the trousers often as seperates; with other jackets, sweaters, etc. 

The other option to is order a 2nd pair of trousers with the suit, which is a popular option for our customers who are hard-wearing on their pants.

The ultimate sportcoat is wool & cashmere in a neutral color with a subtle pattern.

Monochromatic (all grey) with heavy texture = always badass. 

The more texture, the more swagger.

Our suit jackets are designed to also be worn as sportcoats - to open up your wardrobe.

A good coat is one you can always grab - no matter what outfit you're wearing.

Khaki and grey is a very underrated color combo. Especially when you blend textures like wool/cashmere, merino and corduroy. 

Layering knits (like a cardigan over a turtleneck) is one of the smoothest casual moves in the game.

With the coat it's even better.

A denim-on-denim combo is the perfect base to layer with any jacket, coat or sweater. Just keep the shirt ligther and the pants darker - and you can't miss.

A corduroy suit jacket doubles as the perfect Fall/Winter sportcoat.

Even better with the coat.

Using a cardigan in place of a jacket is an easy way to make a look that is more casual and laidback.

This is an example of an easy outfit that you can wear virtually anywhere - and be the best-dressed guy in the room. 

Khaki & grey is a killer combo - especially in textures of cashmere, merino & flannel. 

Even better with the coat.

Combining tasteful colors and textures is the foundation of timeless style.

The Timeless Gentleman Capsule

Alex was born and raised in Indiana but moved to New York to pursue a creative career and has stayed for many years.

He began making little projects and short films in high school and technically never stopped. It’s transitioned into a life-long career - producing and directing commercials, documentaries, narrative features, music videos and more.

Alex describes his style as influenced by his childhood on the farm and his father’s passion for menswear:

“My childhood on the farm gave me an appreciation for workwear and denim, yet my father’s refined taste and knowledge of menswear also provided me with an equal love of tailoring. As long as I can remember, it was important for me to have good style and be appropriately but creatively dressed for every occasion.”

His capsule reflects his taste toward classic menswear, featuring a traditional color palette and more rugged fabrics like denim and corduroy. This capsule reaches across your most every day dress code and can reach up to more business/formal occasions.

Before AOS, fit was always an issue for Alex:

“While many clothes fit me off the rack, it is rare to find a fit that looks good and is also truly comfortable. I have always wanted clothing that moves freely with my body without sacrificing the elegance of a flattering fit.
