Frank Clegg and his team are legendary for sourcing the most beautiful leathers in the world. Unlike a typical smooth leather hide, shrunken bison is not stretched during the drying process. Instead, it is laid flat and allowed to condense during the drying process, creating a unique grain that is tick, rugged and uniquely textured. This also makes the hide more resistant to the elements and less likely to show scuff marks or patina over time. We appoint our shrunken leather products with a smooth belting leather which creates a great contrast for the bags while also providing a structured carry.
“WOW! The quality of the fabric and craftsmanship amazing. This is what American menswear should be. Bravo!"
"The comfort of AOS clothing is second to none. I literally wear my pieces everyday. Thank you!"
"I just received my topcoat, suit and cashmere sweater. I am blown away! All three are 100X better in person than they are in the pictures."
Over the past 50 years Frank Clegg has made many different versions of the classic duffle bag. I've owned and used at least five different shapes and sizes of Clegg duffles. After years of personal research I found that this shape - the Compass duffle - was the most practical and versatile. Originally designed as an outdoor log carrier in the 1970s, it's larger than his other styles. It's also roughly the maximum size that you can travel with as a "carry-on", which I love because I never check a bag. I can live out of this duffle for up to a week. It can fit two pairs of shoes and a smart capsule wardrobe - if you're an AOS reader, you get it. For the AOS version we added an exterior pocket to each side of the bag for easy access to things like your phone and passport, and finished it with our signature houndstooth lining.
