What happens if my garment doesn't fit perfectly when it arrives?

If your final garment doesn't fit perfectly right out of the box, don't worry. It's completely normal to need a few minor adjustments. This is a standard part of the process for any custom-made garment, whether it's from Articles of Style or any other tailor, online or in person.

Step 1: Upload Your Pre-Alterations Final Fitting

Once you receive your garment, we recommend completing a final fit review through our digital fitting platform.

You'll upload photos of yourself wearing the garment and include any notes, questions, or feedback about the fit. This is your opportunity to tell us what feels right, what feels off, and how you'd like the garment to fit. Every client has unique preferences, and the more information you provide, the better we can assist you.

Our team of fit experts will review your photos and notes, identify any issues, and provide detailed alteration recommendations.

Step 2: Adjusting the Fit

After reviewing your fitting, out team of fit experts will send you detailed alteration notes that you can take directly to your local tailor to address the specific issues with the garment.

In the vast majority of cases, minor local alterations are all that's needed to achieve the desired fit.

Rather than shipping garments back and forth, we utilize local tailors for efficiency and convenience.

This approach allows you to:

  • Get adjustments completed more quickly
  • Work directly with a tailoring professional in person
  • Build a relationship with a local alteration specialist
  • Avoid the delays and costs associated with shipping

Step 3: Upload Your Post-Alteration Fitting

Once the alterations are complete, we encourage you to upload another fitting through the platform.

When submitting a fitting, you'll have the option to select:

  • Final Fitting (Before Alterations)
  • Final Fitting (After Alterations)

The process is the same. Upload photos, provide notes, and our team will review the results.

In the vast majority of cases, the garment will fit as desired after these local alterations.

Alteration Reimbursement

We reimburse alterations performed on Articles of Style custom garments within 60 days of delivery, in the form of store credit to be used off your next order as we continue to build your wardrobe.

Please refer to our Alterations Policy below for complete details.

We Continuously Improve Your Fit

One of the most valuable parts of the fitting process is that every fitting teaches us more about you.

Whenever our team reviews a fitting, we update your fit profile and pattern information on file. This allows us to refine your patterns, learn your preferences, and improve the accuracy of future garments.

In other words, your fit gets better with every order - but is usually "locked-in" after the first final order + one round of alterations.

When We Consider a Remake

We only consider remakes after the full fitting and alteration process has been completed.

This is important because most fit issues can be successfully resolved through local tailoring, and we won't know whether a garment can be corrected until those alterations have been attempted.

Articles of Style was built on principles of sustainability, longevity, and respect for craftsmanship. We do not believe in remaking garments unnecessarily when they can be adjusted and enjoyed for years to come.

Custom garments can often be altered significantly - made slimmer or fuller, shorter or longer - making alterations the most practical and sustainable solution in most situations.

If you've completed the fitting process, followed our alteration recommendations, and the garment still does not meet expectations, our team will review the case and determine whether a remake is appropriate.

Returns

If, after completing the fitting and alteration process, you are still not satisfied with the garment and do not wish to keep it in your wardrobe, then you are more than welcome to return the garment for a refund.

See our return policy below.

A Collaborative Process

Achieving the perfect fit is a collaborative process between you and our tailoring team.

Our digital fitting platform is available 24/7, allowing you to submit fittings whenever it's convenient. Your fittings will be reviewed and responded to in a timely manner - by our team of real, human tailoring experts.

Combined with the expertise of local alteration specialists, this creates an efficient system that can help you refine both new and existing garments over time.

Updating Older Garments

If you have an older Articles of Style garment that no longer fits the way you'd like - whether due to body changes or evolving fit preferences - you can use the same fitting process.

Simply upload photos of the garment, provide notes about what you'd like adjusted, and our team will review the fit and recommend alterations.

We'll also update your fit profile based on the new information.

In fact, if it's been a while since your last order, we often recommend reviewing a recent garment before cutting a new one. This helps us identify any changes in your body or preferences and ensures that future garments continue to improve and evolve with you.

Our goal is simple: to continually refine your fit, learn your preferences, and help you build a wardrobe that gets better over time.

What is your alterations policy?

Alterations are a normal part of the custom tailoring process. Whether you're working with a tailor in person or ordering custom garments remotely, a final fitting is often needed to fine-tune the fit and account for personal preferences.

When you receive your garments, we ask that you complete a Final Fitting (Before Alterations) by uploading photos and feedback through your account. Our team of experienced tailors and fit specialists will review the fit and provide a personalized alteration guide for your local tailor.

Once the alterations are complete, we recommend uploading a Final Fitting (After Alterations) so we can review the finished result and update your custom patterns on file. This is an important part of our process, as it allows future garments to incorporate those refinements automatically. With each order, your fit becomes more personalized and precise.

We reimburse alteration costs as store credit toward a future order. Simply send us a photo of your tailor's receipt showing the total amount, and we'll add the credit to your account.

Please note that alteration reviews and reimbursements are available for up to 60 days after your garment is delivered. To qualify, alterations must be completed and submitted within this timeframe. Because fit can change over time due to factors such as body changes, garment wear, or evolving style preferences, we are unable to review fittings or reimburse alterations beyond 60 days from delivery.

If a garment cannot be brought up to our fit and quality standards through alterations, we will remake it at no additional cost. Remakes are approved by our tailoring team after reviewing the fitting and alteration process. This approach helps us avoid unnecessary waste while ensuring every customer receives garments they love to wear.

Most importantly, if your first garments need a few adjustments, don't worry. It's a normal part of the custom tailoring process, and we're here to guide you every step of the way. Our goal is simple: to help you build a wardrobe of garments that fit beautifully, wear comfortably, and improve with every order.

What is your cancellation policy?

Every Articles of Style garment is custom-made on demand specifically for you. Unlike off-the-rack clothing, each order requires a significant amount of personalized work before the final garment is delivered, including reviewing your measurements, creating custom patterns, purchasing fabric, producing try-on garments when applicable, reserving production capacity, and coordinating the manufacturing process.

If you decide to cancel an order before the final garment has been delivered, we are happy to accommodate your request. However, because many of the costs associated with your order are incurred early in the production process and cannot be recovered, those costs will be deducted from your refund.

These costs may include, but are not limited to:

  • Fabric and material purchases
  • Custom pattern creation and development
  • Measurement analysis and fit review
  • Try-on garment production and shipping
  • Manufacturing and production costs already incurred

The remaining balance will be refunded promptly.

This policy exists to protect our business from losses associated with canceled custom orders after production has begun, while still providing customers with flexibility if their circumstances change.

If you have any questions about your order, cancellation eligibility, or potential refund amount, please don't hesitate to contact us. We're always happy to help and will do our best to find a fair solution.

What is your return policy? (satisfaction guarantee)

Articles of Style is proud to offer a 100% Satisfaction Guarantee.

If you receive your garment and are not satisfied, we first encourage you to complete our fitting process, including any recommended alterations or remakes outlined in our Alterations Policy. Our goal is always to achieve a fit and finish that you love, and we stand behind our garments with a comprehensive fit guarantee.

If, after completing the fitting process, you still decide that the garment is not right for you, you may return it within 30 days of delivery for a full refund, provided it is in new, unworn condition. (Please note that we have methods of verifying whether a garment has been worn.)

Because every Articles of Style garment is custom-made specifically for the individual customer, returned garments cannot be resold. Each order involves significant investments in fabric, custom pattern development, fitting reviews, try-on garments, shipping, and production. For this reason, we strongly prefer to alter or remake garments whenever possible rather than accept returns.

Our business is built on long-term relationships and helping clients build wardrobes over time. In fact, we often incur our greatest costs on a customer's first order as we develop their custom fit and patterns for future garments.

If, after completing the process, we are unable to meet your expectations and a refund is issued, we may determine that Articles of Style is not the right fit for your future clothing needs. In such cases, we reserve the right to decline future orders. This is never a decision we take lightly, but rather a recognition that our custom process may not be the best solution for every customer.

Our commitment remains simple: we will do everything reasonably possible to create garments that you are excited to wear and enjoy for years to come. If we cannot achieve that outcome, we will honor our satisfaction guarantee and make things right.
