What I Wore Today: Columbia Alumni

January 4th, 2016

Rule #1 of Articles of Style: bring your “A Game” every day!

“Columbia Alumni”

Use the comments section below to tell us who’s style you’re appreciating today.

After almost two months of traveling on the East coast, it’s great to be back in Los Angeles. “Winter layering” here consists of a silk bomber jacket, a thin cashmere sweater and a beefy oxford shirt. Can’t complain with that.

Will’s starting the new year off right by taking a page from the Casual Topcoat playbook.

    Well played, player.

My brother-from-another and former backcourt mate Niko Scott test-driving the blackwatch mac, back up on Columbia’s campus.

As a downtown NYC native and manhattan real-estate broker, Niko knows a thing or two about staying “casually cool”. As proven by these Rick Owens horizontal-cut corduroys that I’ve been eyeing for a couple years now…

    Thanks, as always, for reading.

    Yours in style,

    Dan Trepanier

My vote goes to Niko for the Mac and horizontal-cut Corduroys. Strong second place for Dan. With Will… in my opinion he just lacks natural attitude, posing only minimizes the effect even of great clothing…

Battle of the topcoats for me, but Will just edges it. Love the layering.

Will takes it for me!!! But I do have a question, there always seems to be some sort I’m “clutter” when I wear a button down under a sweatshirt. I notice will has the same issue, and I no where are slim as he is. Any way to avoid that?

      • TO

Can you explain”clutter”. I may have the same issue but I’m not sure what you mean

        • Edwin

If you look just below his pecs there is some bunching of the fabric

          • TO

Hmm I don’t have that problem. Even when you yank the collared shirt down in the front and tuck it? I usually have a bit of an issue having the crew neck and the open collar getting along nicely (I usually have to play with them a bunch each time I put that combination on…)

Niko almost had me at the horizontal corduroys, but I go with Dan. He’s pulling off a simultaneously casual, nerd-nodding but sleek look, with each separate element adding a slightly different dimension to the overall ensemble. The boots and bomber are a very slick casual pairing, brought down to earth by the brighter cashmere. Then the buttoned up button up adds an honest Forest Gumpiness to the whole thing. With the right bag, (leather holdall?) he’d be unstoppable on a commute.

      Golf clap + hat tip.

Hope you guys start doing this more again. Love those Corduroys but I’ll have to give you the overall W today, have a good one fellas.

I’m so glad this is back, really like Will’s look, the top coat looks good with anything.

Tough call all of the looks are on-point (and given the amount of snow we have in Ontario, these “winter” looks are bitterness inducing… with temps around -28 today….). I’ll give the narrow win to Will, with Dan then Niko close behind…
I had always wondered why you didn’t see people experimenting with horizontal cords, but good to see that I was not the only person asking that question… Still the Nod goes to Will’s layering, and the on-point top-coat…

MINUS TWENTY EIGHT!? Damn AdamE, what part of Ontario are you in?? I do miss the cold from time to time, but damn.

        • AdamE

It’s warmed up to -18 in Ottawa, but it was -28 when I left this morning… heavyweight wool pants, chunky-knit sweater, and giving my new parka that I got for Christmas a solid test drive… Days like this I’m sure there are no regrets with defecting to the West Coast…

It was weird, I was going through some of the old WIWT and was thinking you hadn’t done one for a while and if you’d discontinued it. Glad to see it back.

      All looks are ?

Can you please tell me is there a waiting list for the shirts? And how long from ordering to shipping out to UK?

On a separate note is Towni not part of the team? I was following his hair journey, think he’d managed to get the samurai look that I’m trying to copy.

      • http://www.TSBmen.com/ Dan Trepanier

        Thanks Raj.

We’ve been off the WIWT for a bit with all the traveling we’ve been doing, but gearing it back up again with some greats guests.

Still working some things out for international shipping… Will have more info soon.

Townsend is no longer part of the AOS team. The hair journey award def goes to Alex anyhow… :)

      All winners in my book.

Side note- Will could definitely be doing Calvin Klein ads.

For real. You should talk to his agent…
