What I Wore Today: Tailoring Throwdown

April 17th, 2015

Rule #1 of Articles of Style: bring your “A Game” every day!

“Tailoring Throwdown”

Use the comments section below to tell us who’s style you’re appreciating today.

Our long time friend DJ McDonald is getting a few last wears out of his lush flannels in New York City, like this awesome houndstooth/windowpane.

BWills has been really stepping up his suit game out in Los Angeles.

Nobody gets more excited about wearing bold colors come Spring time than Toronto’s JS Vann, otherwise known as “Sox”, otherwise known as Mr. Couture Streetwear, otherwise known as the brains behind The Dirty Inc.

I love a tailored jacket that I can wear with a t-shirt, like this unstructured flannel piece. Casual, comfortable, tailored.

Thanks, as always, for reading and special thanks to each of these gentlemen for participating!

DJ crushed it with the soft shoulder windowpane. @Alex, that first photo of DJ is unreal. Well done.

    • Miguel

Uh oh, Dan are you gonna tell your boy Dirty that his windsor knot is not AOS approved? How did he even get featured sporting that tie knot? The Canadian betrayal….

    • Max BornInTheNineties

Three suits that I’d kill for.
I like Dan’s jacket but the look isn’t doing it for me, I think it’s because of the dark brown fabric on top of the moss/army green tee.
      Awesome WIWT all round though!

I’m really feeling DJ’s outfit, I’ve always liked his style and had actually hoped he’d be featured again. Dan gets points for simplicity though. Greys and browns all the way!

Brandon’s suit seems pretty awfully cut, though, especially the sleeves and shoulders (some pretty bad looking divots there), but the button stance and the jacket’s pockets are also notably too high. This is in contrast to Sox’s trousers and sport coat which fit him flawlessly.

I’ll try this question again, as I didn’t get an answer last time, any info on the fabric on that Black Lapel sport coat, Dan?

      • Calvin

        Hi Juan,

The fabric is 10% cashmere, 90% wool.

        • http://ledebonnaire.tumblr.com/ Juan Zara

Hi Calvin, thanks for the reply!

I recently acquired a Belvest sport coat in the exact same fabric, and since I couldn’t find any info on the inside tag (as per usual with Belvest,) I was actually looking for info on the manufacturer, as in the mill that produced the fabric.

    • @dressedbycc

Sox all day. Dude rides dirty!

    • Jimmy_Johansen

Dan all the way. Though Sox gets honorable mention. With a different fit Brandon’s would be so much better… and DJ is killing me. So smooth if it was November but I’m trying my hardest to bring Spring to NYC. I’m wearing all the cotton and linen that I can.

    • Dave Coakley

Dan wins. That look is so relaxed yet totally on point.

Mr. Williams is standing out the most to me by pairing those spectacular and lush “playboy” loafers with a serious power business suit! Gotta love seeing DJ back on here as his daily combinations are always impressive (great textures here). I wanna give a shot-out to Sox here as well, thinking of going bespoke in Toronto, I’d like to know more about his current venture (hopefully he’s reading).

      • FT_TONY

You should definitely check him out! I have had a few bespoke peices done in the city but the overall experience, craftsmanship and style with Sox is the best I’ve experienced. It’s 100% a true bespoke experience http://www.thedirtyinc.com

Thanks for the recommendation FT_TONY !

    • The-Bigwig

Dan, I thought that someone threw that ball on you.

I really like DJ’s look but I’m in a decidedly spring mood here in Pgh (though it’s cloudy) so I’ll give it to Dan. Need to start trying t-shirts with a blazer. What brand is that watch?

      • http://www.TSBmen.com/ Dan Trepanier

        Thx player. Watch by Montblanc
