Go-To Outerwear for Spring

March 19th, 2015

Winter is almost over, which means for those of us who love menswear, we have to say goodbye to some of our favorite outerwear pieces.

The good news is, there’s some great lightweight jackets on the market that are perfect for that transition period from Winter to Spring.

Here are three of our favorites, to get you thinking.

    A Lighter Leather

There are leather jackets for the Fall/Winter, and there are leather jackets for the Spring/Summer. The latter are lightweight, super minimalist (like this cafe racer style) and cut from a buttersoft lambskin in a lighter shade (like this sage green).

    3/4 Length Mac

A simple cotton mac is a wardrobe essential for the Spring time. It’s a go-to raincoat that you can wear dressed-up or down, whether it’s raining or not. Look for one in a neutral color (like this cool stone grey) that’s water resistant, trim through the body, and hits around mid-thigh.

    The Cotton Bomber

A cotton bomber is underrated in the menswear game. This is your Spring/Summer alternative to that casual peacoat or varsity jacket that you’ve been wearing all winter. Look for one with a trim fit and a ribbed hem that hits a few inches below the waist. Keep the design nice and simple, the color saturated but neutral, and the collar popped like your doing you’re best James Dean impression.

Hmmmmmmm. Rain aside, is Spring outerwear even really necessary? Wear a nice tailored jacket!

    • TO

I literally bought an unlined cotton bomber minutes after reading this article. Remembered I saw one on the mannequin in the window of my neighbourhood vintage store on the way home last night that I thought would fit me. Turns out it fits great! Most of my spring outerwear is blue, I am very happy to have found this one that happens to be in a similar shade to the jacket in this article:)

Moving from the east coast (baltimore) to Cali, I have no doubt had to change my outwear game..for instance its 83 right now here in Fresno.. I still have some of my heavy duty outerwear for when I go back to visit the east coast..but I have transitioned to the above stated (being I have all those outerwear pieces plus more)…my favorite look is the first though being that I have rocked that look more than anything else..

It’s definitely getting warmer even here in France but for the bomber, do you have any brands to recommend?
