Between Seasons: The Lightweight Jacket

April 9th, 2013

Nothing will give your wardrobe a boost quite like a lightweight jacket for those transitional times between seasons. Here’s some ideas.

    Sleek Varsity

A simple leather varsity-style jacket is perfect for a casual night out. It’s casual and sporty without looking like athletic attire.

    • Grey leather baseball jacket by Hugo Boss
    • Navy pullover hoody by Club Monaco
    • Red plaid shirt by Polo Ralph Lauren
    • Faded Black boots by Brooklyn Bootworks
    • Watch by Montblanc Timewalker
    • Raw denim jeans by APC

    Cotton Bomber

You can’t go wrong with a lightweight baseball jacket.

Also, wap your boring traditional button-down shirt for a band collar shirt. It’s much less “office” looking and has plenty more swagger. I actually cut the beat-up collar off of this old Brooks Brothers shirt (that I had tailored a couple years ago) and replaced it with a simple white band collar. If you know your way around a sewing machine (or have a relationship with a decent tailor) t’s a simple alteration that can bring new life to the old shirts collecting dust at the back of your closet.

    • Khaki cotton bomber jacket by Helmut Lang
    • Blue striped shirt by Brooks Brothers
    • Indigo denim jeans by JBrand
    • Beeswax desert boots by Clarks
    • Waxed cotton braided belt by Martin Dingman
    • Black aviator shades by Persol
    • Watch by Montblanc Timewalker

    Denim Trucker

The perfect complement to finish-off a simple shirt & tie “business casual” look.

This marled sweater, which has a tweed-like texture, works great with classic menswear fabrics like denim and chino.

    • Denim jacket by Levi’s
    • Flannel herringbone shirt
    • Khaki chinos by Polo Ralph Lauren
    • Brown socks by Smart Turnout
    • Silver belt buckle by Ralph Lauren Purple Label
    • Wooden shades by Shwood
    • Marled V-neck Sweater by Ralph Lauren
    • Red rep tie Vintage
    • Watch by Montblanc Timewalker
    • Brown alligator belt by Ralph Lauren Purple Label
    • Burgundy penny loafers by Bass
    • Brown alligator watch band by Montblanc

    Washed Leather

Nothing says “Fall Weekend Getaway” like a leather bomber, carry-on duffle bag, and ruggedly-refined moc toe boots.

As I’ve mentioned recently, my trouser silhouette has been getting a little wider, and pleatier, lately. Not everything has to be super slim to look sharp. There’s an old-school charm in fuller pants, like these off-white pleated chinos.

    • Brown felt hat by Borsalino
    • Navy Striped henley by Levi’s
    • Men’s Earthkeepers® Tenon Bomber Jacket
    • Beige pleated high-waisted chinos by Helmut Lang

    • Brown leather duffle by Frank Clegg Leatherworks
    • Men’s Earthkeepers® Rugged LT Moc Toe Waterproof Boots

    Thanks, as always, for reading.
