The Up & Down: Slub Silk Tweed
October 19th, 2016
The beauty of unstructured tailoring is that it turns a “business suit” into a “lifestyle garment”. So if you curate your wardrobe properly, you can pair your tailored items with everything in your closet, from power ties to your favorite beat-up jeans.
“The Up & Down” is a series where we showcase how an unstructured suit can be dressed-up for the office, or a special occasion, then broken-up into seperates and styled for the most casual settings.
Today we’re taking a closer look at a very unique fabric from our FW16 collection – the Slub Silk Tweed. This rare cloth is an intensely textured blend of silk (60%), worsted wool (36%), and cashmere (4%) woven in Italy with a spectacular mix of black, white and gray yarns. At a perfect 10 ounces, this fabric makes for an ideal “lightweight tweed” jacket that can be worn year-round with trousers, chinos, jeans…just about anything, really.
We’ve always loved the classic gentlemanly appeal of tweed – and we love it even more with this modern, rakish update.
Here are just two of the thousands of ways to style this type of fabric into your regular rotation.
Year-Round “Tweed” Suit
There’s nothing quite like a heavily-textured suit in a monochromatic palette of grey, white and black yarns. On one-hand it’s modern, eye-catching and style-forward. On the other hand it’s old-school, gentlemanly and classic.
We love making suits for guys that they’ll wear more often as seperates.
We encourage you to wear the jacket with everything from jeans, to chinos, to tailored sweatpants – if you got it like that.
Wear the trousers with everything from oxford shirts, chunky sweaters, to casual bomber jackets… Once you get the comfort of custom-tailored trousers in a luxury fabric, you’ll likely stop wearing jeans.
The blend, weight and weave of this fabric also make it a true “4-season” cloth.
Wear it in the Summer with a linen shirt, sunglasses and white sneakers.
Wear it in the Spring with a poplin shirt, lightweight knit and suede loafers.
Wear it in the Fall with an oxford shirt, cardigan and wingtips.
Wear it in the Winter with an overcoat, turtleneck and chelsea boots.

Year-Round “Tweed” Casual Jacket
The medium grey color allows you to wear the jacket with every color of denim – raw indigo, light washed, black, grey, white, etc.
That’s the easiest way to get the most our of your wardrobe investments; choosing fabrics that can cross-over from formal to casual, from summer to winter, and can be worn with all your favorite items (like these white jeans I’ve had since college – thank you bleach).
Thanks, as always, for reading.
Yours in style,
