Year in Review: The Best of 2015

December 30th, 2015

2015 was a fantastic year for Articles of Style, thanks to all of our readers and supporters who allow us to keep this dream alive.

In the spirit of reminiscing over the passing of another blessed year, I thought I’d share some of my personal highlights from 2015.

In no particular order, here are some of my personal favorite articles and moments from the past year:

The True Cost of Cheap Clothing

This is a very important article for all consumers of “fashion”. In a way, this article shaped our outlook on the products we want to offer, and the type of company we want to be.

A Discourse on American Style feat. Bruce Boyer

Bruce Boyer, in my opinion, is the best menswear writer in America. The quotes that flow from Bruce in the course of a casual conversation about menswear will have you thinking about much more than just clothing.

Major Team Upgrades

This year I was blessed with more brilliant friends and loved ones committed to helping me grow this brand and turn our blog into a full-service menswear destination.

The Art of Bespoke Denim

We love a good story.

The “Capsule Wardrobe” Series

This is an important series for us because it highlights one of our core values as a brand: quality over quantity. We believe in versatility, long-term design and lasting craftsmanship. Buy less, buy better.

Functionally Fly feat. Jason Andrew

Jason is one of the sharpest guys we featured this year, in my opinion.

The State of Menswear According to Alan Flusser

I don’t always agree with Mr. Flusser‘s steadfastly-traditional philosophies on clothing, but having one of the “forefathers” of American Menswear Literature sharing his views on AOS is always good for diversity and debate.

A Guide to Loafers

Essential reading on essential footwear. As the “casually tailored” aesthetic continues to catch on across menswear markets, loafers continue to see a lot of pavement.

Game Day Style feat. Marcedes Lewis

Because if a 6’6 275 lbs NFL player can dress elegantly and act like gentlemen, then there’s a chance for all of us.

The “How It Should Fit” Series

This will certainly be on-going series. Lots of garments still to cover. Check out the full series here.

Second-Hand Dandy feat. Jesse Thorn

Because old-school menswear is becoming cool again, and having a foundation of knowledge is having a foundation for style.

Return to The Today Show

It all comes full circle.

The Launch of AOS Tailoring

Two years of development finally came to life this October. With already 300 clients in the first two months, we are very excited about the launch of our first collection and the future of Articles of Style Tailoring.

A Note About 2016

Next year is gearing up to be another big one. At the top of our office inspiration board reads “2016 Will be a Year of:”

  • Expansion (of our garment offering and content schedule)
  • Refinement (of our user experience and website interaction)
  • Collaboration (with featured guests and contributors)
  • Introduction (of the new AOS video series)
  • Re-Introduction (of the new and improved Style Guide)
  • Global Domination (worldwide shipping of our American tailoring)

What would you like to see from AOS in 2016? Please share your thoughts in the comments section below. We always appreciate direct feedback from our readers.

Thanks for reading. Hope you’re gearing up for a great New Year!

Yours in style,

Dan Trepanier

So glad to read that the style guide is coming back! I’ve definitely missed it.

Hey dan, I think you should keep support for some of your much older articles too. I don’t know if it is just me but I have trouble accessing some of your much older work from the very early days!!

  • tommyjohn_45

Definitely looking forward to what the video series, I always got a kick out of the $200 challenge video you did back in the day. How It Should Fit and the Capsule Wardrobe series were very helpful. Looking forward to what’s in store for the future.

    Happy New Year!

  • Jose Torres

Variation of lapel and shoulder structure! That is all, thank you.

Happy New Year Dan, Alex and the rest of the crew I’ve yet to meet!

Would love to see various accessories in the shop! Also, if you could swing a guide that summarizes different cloth weights I would find it helpful, though it might not be practical since only for custom clothes is this quality specified. Looking forward.
