How to Tie a Tie (Live on Today)

December 14th, 2015

Special thanks to The Today Show team for allowing me to host a quick menswear segment on Friday.

For everyone who’s been asking, here’s the clip of Matt Lauer, Al Rocker and I working out the four-in-hand and Windsor tie knots.

For more on tie knots, check out our Guide to Collar StylesSimple Guide to Tie Knots, and the Art of the Dimple.

You can also find a bonus piece on how to tie a bowtie on

Thanks for reading watching.

This guy started off as “The Style Blogger”. Look how far dedication and just starting where you are can get you. From taking selfies to the Today Show. We must be inspired.

  • Jeff

I was stoked to see you on tv Dan! Good job on the segment!

  • Miguel

    Happy holidays guys, keep climbing.

  • Edwin Calderón

Good job bro!!! It’s cool to see your journey from the Style Blogger to now on AOS. You’re killing it and Definetely an inspiration.

    • Dan Trepanier

Thanks Edwin. Still feels like we’re just getting started…

      • Edwin Calderón

Oh I have no doubt that we haven’t reached the summit bro. I have high hopes for the AOS team and it’s a cool feeling knowing I’ve been there since the beginning. Haha.

LOL at Matt Lauer for throwing shade at that Windsor “Bond never trusted a guy in a windsor knot”.

    • AdamE

Love it. I’ve always brought that one up, a Windsor is too fussy, and generally a sign that someone is hiding something…

      Great clip though!

      • JoeFromTexas

It’s funny because Dan’s been on record saying the 4-in-hand is the only knot you need. So I can imagine some producer saying one knot is not enough, we need two to fill the segment. Then in comes Lauer shading on the Windsor under the cover of Bond. Still a fun segment.

        • AdamE

And you know that they only screwed up the Windsor knot because their stylists usually tie it for them…

we need more vids!!! thx guys and happy holidays!

I see more video in the near future of AOS :):)
