Here at Articles of Style, we don’t want you to buy more clothes. We want you to buy the right clothes, so you can wear them comfortably and not have to replace them every year. A smart wardrobe is one that is built around versatility and longevity. Ideally, the majority of the pieces can be mixed-and-matched to create different outfits for different occasions.
To illustrate this point, here’s the second installment in our “Capsule Wardrobe” series, where we give an example of a smart wardrobe built around, what else, a tailored suit in a seasonal fabric.
The 10 Pieces
- One unstructured steel blue hopsack suit
- One black cotton topcoat
- One spread collar grey/white banker shirt
- One black silk knit tie
- One grey/white linen gingham shirt
- One pair of grey washed jeans
- One heather grey cotton crewneck sweater
- One pair of black leather monkstrap loafers
- One pair of white leather sneakers
- One black felt brimmed hat
Fully suited for a day at the office, or an evening event. Perfect for those “Semi Formal” occasions.
Lose the suit jacket and switch to a linen shirt with a more casual pattern for a “business casual” take on the look.
Break up the suit with jeans and layer the neutral crewneck sweater for a smart in-between look, perfect for date night.
Dress down the suit with a scoop neckline and some minimal low-top sneakers for a little weekend tailoring.
Go full casual with the topcoat, sweater, jeans and sneakers for an easy-going (but still smart and tailored) Sunday afternoon.
I hope this gets you thinking about adding some versatility into your wardrobe and getting the best bang for your buck by investing in quality menswear that you can rely on.
Thanks, as always, for reading.
Yours in style,
