I picked up the white Borsalino Panama Hat at the beginning of the season and wear it every opportunity I get! But quickly realized it’s NOT a beach hat or really appropriate in any casual situation, so I got a less expensive version from Jcrew for my throw around (per Alex’s advice in an older post) and I wear it almost every day. It’s a little less stiff and gives off a more casual vibe. That Borsalino though…

I don’t know if this would get it’s own category, but my current summer goto (after finally moving up from a $10 fedora copped at Broadway and 4th) is a straw version of the classic open road style. Beautiful hat, nice mix of fedora and western, though I suppose it’s technically a panama, hand woven in Ecuador with a wide brim.

By the way, to those clicking on that Brixton Baxter link at Nordstorm, and seeing a “No long Available” note and thinking to yourself, that dadgum JoeFromTexas, did he cop the last Baxter. Well not exactly, it’s listed again here at $55: . I’m here to serve gents. Now did I cop the last one on sale at $33? Yes I did.

I wear the “&” baseball cap I grabbed a couple years ago in San Fran from the Saturdays x GQ x Gap collab. Useful for when I don’t have time to wet my hair in the morning or for whatever other reason am having a bad hair day.

I am Wanting to expand into other (more) classic styles- I picked up the “starter” crushable felt safari fedora you have recommended many times. Even at the standard 2.5″, I cannot get over how big the brim looks on me. I am planning to gift it to my pops. Even though it is considered “stingy” for better or worse, I am on the lookout for some hats that I love right around the 2″ mark. Hard pickings, tho.

I just had to post to say that Ouigi Theodore has one hell of a nice beard!

A hat in Summer is a great thing – when it’s hot, it protects your face; when it’s not, it’s keep you a shade warmer. In Londontown a cap is acceptable but a hat not so much – I prefer the flat cap over the newsboy/bakerboy but personal preference I guess; I currently wear two identical linen/cotton chambray versions from H&M, I wish I could pull off the baseball cap…….

No straw in London? What’s the deal with that? Too much chance of rain?

      • AFH

I dunno for sure, but that’s probably it – it was raining today and the label Duchamp featured your yellow mac photo on their facebook. Down at the Henley Regatta might be different, but I didn’t even see any when I was sharing a train with the blazered rowing crowd last week. Hats are a bold move in London generally though.

I go for the baseball cap occassionally (this one from Denim & Supply is the one I wear ). I just hate the curved brim that Towni is sporting. I prefer a very subtle curvature with the brim.

  • John

Save the baseball cap, I don’t see a lot of guys pulling these off in the “real world”

    • Dan Trepanier

Sounds like an opportunity to a gentleman pioneer.

  • Rams

The Paglia, classic, and nostalgic, and for those that partake a (cohiba) in hand. Right? With 60% plus humidity, I reach for the baseball cap staple or the bucket in the multitude of colors. The straw fedora a la Andre 3000 could be rocked? And love a crushed straw porkpie too. Cheers gents make the weekend a fantastic one!

  • cam

No love for a good ol baseball cap? I get a new RL baseball cap at the beginning of each sprin and wear the hell out of it through the end of summer.

    • Rams

      I feel yah!

The straw fedora hits the right note for me. Love it.
