Patterns & Pastels feat. Curran Swint
April 9th, 2014
Our friend Sabir Peele has been documenting and cultivating an up-and-coming style scene in Philadelphia, PA. So I asked him to recommend a couple guys who were bringing a fresh perspective to menswear in the city of brotherly love.
Meet Curran J. Swint, designer and founder the uplifting streetwear brand Kings Rule Together. Curran’s positive, uplifting message (such as his “Kings Inspire Kings” slogan that has been worn by several celebrity influencers), combined with his eclectic “modern throwback” personal style, has opened some unexpected doors for him, including a cameo in Pharrell’s video IamOther.
Here Curran gives us a taste of his day-to-day Spring style; statement vintage pieces, expressive pattern mixing, and a healthy dose of dusty pastels.
1. Easter Pastel Casual
“I love mixing prints, patterns and colors. Most guys tend to wait for the weather to get warm before introducing color into their wardrobes, but I like to wear color year-round…even layered up in the Winter.”
2. Start From the Top
“I often start styling my look around a hat – like this feather trim fedora… I own many hat styles, but the fedora is usually my go-to because it has the least affect on my hairstyle (making it easy to take on and off).”
- Light Brown Felt Hat by Culture Couture Vintage
- Nautical Stripe Turtleneck by Club Monaco
- Light Blue Double Breasted Blazer by Boyds
- Purple Pocket Square by Armstrong and Wilson
- Navy Stripe Pants by Brooks Brothers
- White Tassel Loafers by Bruno Magli from Culture Couture Vintage
3. Stripes on Stripes
“I’m all about finding, repairing, or tweaking one-off pieces that nobody else has… When I visited my uncle in NYC about 4 years ago I saw these round tortoise glasses laying on the bathroom sink, broken. I asked him if I could keep them if I got them fixed… Now they’re a daily staple of my look.”
Thanks for reading, and special thanks to Curran for participating!
