WIWT: NYC vs. San Francisco

Articles of Style rule #1: Always bring your ‘A’ game.
Use the comment section below to tell us which is your favorite outfit, and why!
Alex and I took a last second trip to San Francisco this week. We’ve been visiting friends, taking in the views, and meeting some great guys in the menswear scene here. More on that next week.
Keeping it simple, functional, and versatile.
For the two day trip I brought all of this (felt hat, tortoise shades, vintage leather, cashmere pop-over, chambray shirt, neutral chinos, suede ankle boots), a pair of selvedge jeans and a white tee.
Have you heard of Jack Erwin? If not, you’re welcome.
A fully integrated distribution model (manufacturer straight to customer) allows them to offer some beautifully designed footwear for only $195. Kind of like the Warby Parker of shoes.
These suede ankle boots are my latest pick-up, and I’m loving them.
“First of all, I just want to say thank you to all the people who came by the MAB sample sale earlier this week. I think I speak for all the Articles of Style guys when I say that it’s a blessing to have such amazing readers. We wouldn’t be anything without you guys, your support is much appreciated. Just for future reference, I am 5’11 hah… everyone seems to think I’m short before they meet me (must be the Crawford photography).
When I first started working for Articles of Style back in summer of 2011, I was so concerned about what to wear that it would almost always come off as trying to hard. Lately, my favorite outfits come at a moments notice without any thought or planning involved. It’s usually better not over thought.”
“I’ve been opting out when it comes to wearing ties, even with suits. This might not be a look for everyone, but I love the silhouette of the long collar and placket.
This lightweight donegal wool sweater is a great way to break-up the monochromatic look that I’ve been preferring.”
“I scooped these Beckett Simonon Goodyear welted chukka boots from one of the local vintage spots that I visit almost every day.”
- Beige Moleskin overcoat by Banana Republic
- Navy donegal wool v-neck sweater Vintage
- White cotton dress shirt by Michael Andrews Bespoke
- Navy 484 chinos by J.Crew
- Brown leather “Bailey” chukka boot by Beckett Simonon
“One of the things I love about this coat, other than it’s hardiness, is the size and shape of the collar. It’s a bit bigger than most other chore coats I’ve seen. It’s a little reminiscent of the 70’s, and the 70’s are coming back.”
“I still love these Will Leather Goods shoes I picked up last summer. They’re definitely my favorite warm weather footwear.”
“The weather finally broke 50 here in NYC, so I’m excited to start breaking out the Spring gear. It’s all about casual layering here; focusing on pieces that are both stylish and comfortable.”
“The breton stripe is a classic spring staple. I really like it on a hoody; it gives a casual feel to a prep staple.”
“Khaki, navy and white; a simple color palette that never fails.”
Thanks for reading. Great content coming up!
