WIWT: Winter Weights

December 19th, 2013

Articles of Style rule #1: Always bring your ‘A’ game.

Use the comment section below to tell us which is your favorite outfit and why!

1. Towni

Photography shot with the Canon EOS 70D digital SLR camera, with Dual Pixel AF technology and built-in Wi-Fi

“It’s starting to get chilly here in NYC, time to bust out the peacoat. This one originally came with cheap plastic buttons, I switched them to gold naval ones and it really made this old coat feel brand new.

It’s also just long enough to serve as an overcoat over this grey/burgundy windowpane suit.”

2. Wes

“I just scooped this vintage parka last month before it got really cold here in NYC.

Considering it’s in brand new condition, other than that thrift store smell, I’d say this is one of my most valuable pick ups in a long time.”

“I picked up this heavy knit sweater at the Gant Rugger sample sale the other day. Great steal.

I’ve also been getting a lot of use out of these moleskin cargo pants, especially when I’m out photographing upcoming features in NYC.”

“The kiltie on these boots actually ripped. Although I miss having them, the boots look great without them.”

3. Alex

Alex has been nailing it with these minimal black & white looks lately.

Here he proves you can wear a shawl collar pullover under a slim tailored jacket. It’s a smooth way to get some more use out of that black suit we’ve been recommending.

Oxford, wool/mohair, cashmere. A smart F/W combo.

You already know Alex is all those dub monks and that frayed denim.

4. Dan

I’m traveling back to Canada for the Holidays, so I’m getting ready for that cold.

I packed these donegal tweed separates, this leather bomber and that fur scarf that my mom helped me make two Christmas’s ago (gotta show love).

The lifestyle in Southern California is unreal, but I do miss layering on cold weather clothing. Alex and I just booked another trip to NYC to visit the East Coast team and shoot some real winter content.

Again with those suede captoe boots by Johnston & Murphy that I’ve been telling you about.

Thanks, as always, for reading.

Yours in style,

Wes’s look is so on point. I’m glad all of these old WIWT posts are accessible again. Tons of amazing content I hadn’t seen before.

Alex. Love examples of white in the winter

  • Badger

Great look for Alex. His hair is looking good lately too.

  • cam

I have to agree that Alex’s transformation has been exceptional. although I would say it’s his hair that has seen the biggest improvement

  • Omar Shaikh

    Towni’s hat is killer.

    • http://www.tsbmen.com Westley Dimagiba

yeah Towni always kills that hat.

  • Marshall M.

    Wes no doubt.
that sweater with dem cargos and dem boots

  • Jack

Wes. That’s one of the site’s best ever looks.

    • http://www.tsbmen.com Westley Dimagiba

idk about the best because we’ve had some great ones recently, but the compliment is much appreciated!

Close race today in my eyes.

Alex is still proving his new looks are not short term; looking good, bro.

Going with Towni, though. Out of everyone’s looks, Towni’s hat is one thing that would make me do a double take…in a good way. Dan, your scarf would be the other but I was trying to only use one thing to firm up my choice.

    Thanks, TSB.

Touni’s peacoat, Wes’ sweater, Alex’s shoes and Dan’s suit trousers were the tops. In terms of an overall winner, I have to go with Towni.

  • Patrick

Wes. Parka is a great find, R Kelly sheets or not…

    • http://www.tsbmen.com Westley Dimagiba

but sh!t it was 99 cents!

  • Waydownsouth

Alex – Classic. Covet the sweater.

  • John B

Dan. That tweed suit is awesome!

  • Johann

    Alex today, great look.

  • http://undefined Nate

Gotta give it to Dan. Loving the high/low thing, the fuller, more classic cut of the trousers (from someone who is normally ALL about the slim fit), and that perfect tie dimple.

    And that scarf….pfft…forget about it!

  • Kevin

Alex has just been killing it lately! He’s really taken the whole minimalist look and made it his own. It’s really been inspiring me to look and see what I can do with my monochromatic clothing.

  • Mondo Moda

    What is that…velvet?!?

    • http://tsbmen.com Dan Trepanier

Nope. There is no velvet in this post.

    • LouCaves

Hey Mondo Moda, I get your “Coming to America” quote. LOL! Love it.

  • Calvin

DAN I love it every time you wear that tweed suit! It’s by far my favorite piece of yours. You always kill it. Great post fellas.

    Merry Christmas & God bless

  • Michael

Wes, the boots look better without the kiltie, just sayin’.

    • Jack

      I agree.

  • TO

Dan. For the really interesting colour/texture combination.

  • Dennis

Jeebus, everyone repping it hard. But Towni and Wes split the vote for me.

  • http://anorexicescapades.com BougieHippie

Wes’s bomber & sweater is just brilliant!!!!!

  • jimmy

great look from wes but the navy gloves kind of make it look like he’s wearing an overused sweater. maybe gloves of a different color would have worked better. my vote goes to Dan.

  • Jakob

Wow, really strong WIWT. But the West Coast definitely won this time.

  • Alex R

Everybody brought it today but I gotta give it to my man Wes. Absolutely loving that sweater and RIP to the kiltie. Boots still lookin fresh though! Dan coming in close second because of the shoes. Those boots are fresh AF.

  • Toby

Going to have to go with Wes on this one. I was close to picking Alex but I don’t know how well the winter white works with the monochromatic look. Couldn’t choose Towni because of the proportion of the fits of the jacket vs. the pants, and I wasn’t feeling the shoes with Dan’s outfit. Just my opinion!

  • http://keyboardandcompass.com/ Jeff McAllister

I’ve got to lend my vote to Towni on this one. No doubt influenced by how much I’ve missed him around these parts!

  • Eric

Dan, by a mile. If for no other reason than how pissed PETA would be at that scarf!

    • http://tsbmen.com Dan Trepanier

I think PETA would appreciate that the scarf was made from an old fur coat. Recycling saves lives.

      • https://twitter.com/TheFarquharHill Alan

Amusing use of a NLP sleight of mouth pattern, but you’d have to be crazy to actually think that PETA would appreciate that. I mean everyone who isn’t a stone-cold vegan is in the hypocrite zone to a point here, but wearing vintage fur does promote the sale of new fur.

  • http://ramblingsofawould-berenaissanceman.blogspot Joseph

Alex. Too cool this time. Too cool.

  • H

Sooooo close, but I think I’ll go with Alex. Love the shawl collar sweater!

  • Edwin

I’m going to go with Alex! Great job! Nice to see how much Alex’s style has developed over time.

    • http://tsbmen.com Dan Trepanier

      Call that the TSBmen effect.

  • Patrick Germany

    • http://tsbmen.com Dan Trepanier

      Ze Germans love Towni

  • http://www.dressedbycc.com CC

Dan – love the oversized cuffs on the trousers. I must ask, what’s with the pleats? I’ve always been of the belief that pleats are reserved for heavy set dudes to supply them with more room…

    • http://tsbmen.com Dan Trepanier

Thanks brother. I really love pleats on select trousers, for the visual interest as well as the extra room for comfort and storage.

  • Drew

Towni, for sure – that color combination is fantastic, and upgrading the peacoat’s buttons put the look over the top.

  • Nick

Alex purely for the winter whites. I have some re-packing to do before my LA —> CT flight tonight!

  • Cam

Awesome looks, as usual. I like Wes by a hair.

  • Austin

All of you guys went in today. But Towni, wow. Fresh.
