Street Style: New York in October

October 8th, 2013

We’re always cruising the streets looking for personal style that excites and inspires us.

Here’s some shots we’ve collected over the last month or so, with some commentary about why they stood out to me.

1. The Perfect Jean

01

Nothing in life is perfect…but if there ever was a perfect pair of jeans, these would be them. Raw denim worn-in to perfection, then cut for the trendy frayed effect. Extra points to my man Nate Bui for that great hat and subtle man jewelry.

2. Tailored Like a Gentleman

31

Speaking of how a suit should fit, look at the shoulder line on this guy…money! Extra points for the lavender & seafoam color combo, and those single monk straps. The hem might be a hair short to balance his tall/wide upper frame, but his hands are in his pockets so all bets are off.

3. Niko Freako

My homie Niko and I played ball together at Columbia. He’s always had a born-and-raised-in-NYC swagger. Here he’s rocking a Levi’s denim shirt and suede Air Forces with some horizontal-cut waxed corduroy jeans by Rick Owens, complete with elastic hemline and knee-length thigh dart to add comfort and flexibility… Now that’s a jean design. Niko was also the one who put me onto Bala’s African Pant Stand.

4. East Coat All the Way

Now that is how a linen blazer should fit. In fact, this guy’s fit is on point all around. I’d say damn near perfect fit. Also, don’t sleep on those navy suede loafs with brown leather soles.

5. Menswear Mavens

15

The tall handsome gent on the right killing it in the white linen suit? That’s Tyler Thoreson. The guy on the left who looks like he doesn’t give a f-ck what you think (but might secretly care a lot) is my homie Lawrence, ringleader of Four-Pins and one of the first regular commenters on the original Articles of Style.

6. Leisure Suit

04

When you’re wearing a suit but you look like you’re on vacation, you’re getting something right. Love the comfort of this knit suit (is that an elastic waistband??) and his pairing with a black t-shirt (or tank) and simple driving mocs.

7. A Real Pro

21

Guerre is one of the flyest dudes I’ve ever met. He stays in these vintage polo sweaters with the ribbed hem and wide retro collars. The wide-brim Panama hat is also one of his signatures. Here I’m loving the cream color story, the man rings, and the extra flow in those lightweight trousers – nice fit for the round-toe monks.

8. Summer Lovin

Speaking of perfectly worn-in jeans… This guy also knows a thing or two about mixing patterns, like this vintage butterfky shirt and those badass monochromatic needlepoint slippers.

9. GQ Certified

22

When you’re the deputy editor of GQ magazine, you know a thing or two about dressing-up a pair of jeans. Love the combo of an olive cotton jacket with chestnut suede oxfords.

10. Shades of Blue

I’ve seen perfectly-fitting flannel DB jackets, although those rounded lapels are fresh. What I haven’t seen? A knit tie with monochromatic vertical color blocking! Also, perfect fit on those glasses, and nice touch with the subtle tie bar & lapel knot.
